PULSE is a standalone, full romance novel with no cliffhanger and a HEA.

Leah Allen
The last thing I needed was another bad boy.

Hard muscles. Handsome. Hot tattoos. He had a dangerous, I don't give a f*** attitude that made him irresistible.

It was supposed to be a one-night stand, but when Dad introduced Chris as my new stepbrother, I knew I was in trouble. His world of gangs and violence would destroy me. I needed to stay away.

Why do I find that impossible?

Chris Belzer
Drugs, fights, death. A typical Wednesday. Meeting Leah changed everything—music coursed through my veins when we f***ed. I knew she would be the key to escaping the quicksand I'd been mired in for ten years.

I shouldn't want her. I couldn't resist her. Breaking out of the crime and blood and into a new life would be impossible without her.

ATTENTION PULSE contains mature subject matter including sex, drugs, and violence. Please be over the age of 18.

I wanted to love this book, and I genuinely tried so hard to ignore the things that made me hate it. The hero, Chris, was a good character, for the most part. While not quite as developed as he could have been, he was engaging. He reminded me of a soulful, loyal little puppy: Desperate to please and to be accepted. He had a lot of set backs and rough patches, but underneath the pain and disenchantment, he really wanted to believe in a possible "silver lining/happiness." I just wanted to hug him and do anything and everything to put a smile on his face.

The heroine, Leah, on the other hand, was one of the worst female leads I have had the distinct displeasure of experiencing. First of all, her characterization was bipolar. At first, she was written as likeable and as a decent human being. But the further the story went, the less likeable she was. By the midway point, I hated her. Self centered. Ego maniac. Diva with a god complex. Pretentious. Over dramatic. Drama queen on steroids. Etc. Etc. Etc. In an acting glass, her whole focus was on observing all the flaws and limitations of fellow classmates- in detail. All the while, of course, patting herself on the back for her own performance. She gets a part in an off Broadway play. From the very beginning, she starts inner monologues about everything that is wrong with EVERYTHING about the play. The other actors. The director. The sets. The building they are in, for goodness sake. The playwrite is some what weird, and pretty much says the play isn't going to do well, from the beginning. But have no fear, super awesome Leah assures him SHE will singlehandedly make it a shining success. Oh, by the way, she has never been in any play or commercial or anything other than school productions... but that's a moot point, because she's freaking perfect and the greatest thing since the wheel.

The further you read, the more Leah's "dark side" is shown. She is constantly noticing/pointing out everyone's flaws. And "fixing" them, too. Like a benevolent overlord, she tries to help the "weakest links" of the play by allowing them to rehearse with her. She is constantly knocking Chris down, treating him as beneath her (actually telling him he's not good enough for her several times.) She is a bully to him. Even going as far as to make her friends cut him off from the career endeavors they shared with him. Oh, oh, oh, AND when that horrible play she is going to save goes down in a spectacular flaming mess, Leah viciously BLAMES it all on Chris... who had absolutely NOTHING to do with it, in any way, shape or form.

Chris deserved so much better than Leah. Leah deserves a deletion "make over."

The plot was a little thin and weak, and could have used some more thought and development, but it wasn't horrible. The worst aspect of it was the "group" that Chris was a part of and the "conflict" with him leaving it. First of all, the writer seemed to want us to see the group as a violent, dangerous gang or something. Almost like a mob. Uh, yeah... nope. I'm sorry, it was a little, tiny group of bullies with grandiose opinions of their significance and badassery. The "leader" might have seen himself as some kind of godfather in his own tiny, little mind, but in reality he was nothing more than a cowardly thug-wanna-be. A bully, plain and simple. Actually, Leah should have been their leader. She was a bigger bully than all 5 or 6 of them combined and you know, she did see herself as omnipotent, afterall.

All in all, I wanted to like this book. The first few chapters were pretty good. But Leah ruined the vast majority of it. I don't know if I will try any more books by this author. I honestly regret reading this one.

Pulse A Stepbrother Romance edition by DG Whiskey Romance eBooks Reviews

At first I was skeptical about reading a romance novel written by a man, but I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely recommend this book to my fellow book buddies.

Heat- Solid 3
Story- 5
Writing style- 4

If you are on the fence...take a chance and jump on this!
I loved it so much! First time reading from this author. Definitely a must read!! A very unique love story very different from the rest of the stepbrother reads. Don't pass this one. You wouldn't regret it. You will loved it!!!
Love love love!!
this just wasn't for me. I just couldn't get into it. She sees him on the street over a bleeding guy- but doesn't run away screaming? Then sees him in a bar- and again- doesn't run off screaming?
I loved this book from start to finish. Now that is not to say I did not get frustrated along the way. But that just made me love Chris and Leah more. To see them struggle with some of the issues we all have made them more real to me. Reading has always been an escape for me and this book definitely helped me with that. I could clearly picture the whole book as it played out. I can't wait to read more of DG Whiskey's books.
Leah is a college student who takes her studies to be an actress very seriously. When she decides to surprise her boyfriend at his apartment what she doesn't expect is to see him going at it with her long time best friend Kat. Leah is done with that relationship and decides to get out with her friends when she sees the one man she vowed to run far away from if she ever sees him again...Chris... Chris is out again with the crew but he just isn't feeling it after his long time friend was just killed in front of him the night before. When he sees those beautiful eyes again he can't help but follow her into the bar. Chris finally get Leah to open up and have a little fun with him. After that one night Chris has no way of getting a hold of Leah because she gave him a fake phone number. Will he forget all about Leah or will an unexpected event take place that brings them back together??
This story started out promising but very quickly took too many turns. I completely missed the connection between Leah and Chris, they didn't have any meaningful conversations yet knew so much about the other....what? The story is not about a stepbrother romance, it's about two people finding themselves. I felt more emotion when they were talking about their perspective careers than any other time. Chris and Leah need depth, there are too many subplots involved in this story. As descriptive as Leah's play was in this story, I needed that for the characters.
